Energy data management: Automation brings lasting success

Energy management must be regularly checked, renewed and kept active. EDMS software that allows automation as much as possible, is an excellent prerequisite for success in energy management.

Requirements for Energy Data Management Software

EDMS software must meet several conditions.

1. Collecting automated data:
The software must collect data automatically via different interfaces and be able to accept it from different applications, but also allow manual input.

2. Compressing, analyzing and communicating data:
EDMS software must process the data collected quickly and properly, and provide it as a basis for making decisions and taking action.

3. Interacting with integration:
The application should integrate into existing systems, in order to avoid errors when exchanging data for data collection and data processing. It should take existing bus systems, protocols and standards such as IEC 60870 and 61850 into account, but also understand proprietary protocols.

4. Act with automation:
EDMS software should be in a position to support the rules of the energy management system through automated actions.

EDMS software with a view to the future

An energy management system is supported well if the underlying EDMS software can calculate consumption and performance in advance. To do this, the system, must automatically collect the current consumption and create a forecast using a valid mathematical model. This forecast must be able to be automatically distributed to decision makers. However the system should also be able to recommend switching action – and ideally also carry these out automatically.

For the forecasts, the system should be able to use different methods of trend calculation. For example, performance trend, energy trend, calculation of the corrective performance, forecast of actual values, forecast of real values and also the reduction of consumption limits.
